I’m not sure about you, but I avoid writing like nobody’s business.
Yes … I do see the irony in the fact you are reading my writing right now lol. But that’s exactly why I’m sharing with you today!
You see … I always desired to follow the age-old advice that anytime you catch yourself answering a client question by email you should write a blog and/or newsletter.
But, I always got stuck executing it.
Why? Well, I would take the simple idea of creating a blog post and/or newsletter from an email and turned it into a major production.
Suddenly the post / newsletter needed to have:
- An amazing title
- A strong intro
- 3-5 bullet points of value
- Be at least 500 words long
- Use my keywords correctly
- Link to resources
- Have a useful featured image
and the list goes on …
No wonder I never wrote any.
What if instead, I did exactly what the advice said: Write a blog post with your answer to the client’s question. Period.
Now my requirements became simple.
All I need to do was to write a response was:
- Visualize my client and sit down and write an answer to their question
OMG – so much easier!
All I needed to do was picture my client and type until I had answered her question. That’s it. Sure … after that I could create a snazzy title, maybe find an image and sneak in a few keywords if it flowed. But by approaching it from this more organic angle I discovered it was so much easier.
And as a bonus, I’ve found this more personal, less formal style of writing is allowing my personality to shine through and I’m connecting with my clients even more. Afterall, isn’t that the point of everything we do? To serve our clients!
So I ask you … Where in your business do you find yourself getting stuck?
